"Dutton has said if his side wins the election, there will be no overhaul of industrial relations, no changes to the NDIS, and no shifting from the Coalition's commitment to net zero." Three of the issues on which he should be going hardest. Pathetic.
So true, John. If it weren't happening, I would have thought it was just a bad nightmare. Until the Liberals clear the Wets from any influence in their policy platforms they will cease to have any chance of forming Government.
I might've even gone further than the headline on your piece in the AFR John, I said to someone a few weeks ago that the cynic in me thinks that the Liberals don't actually want to win this election because things are going to be so difficult over the next three years (i.e. running into gas shortages and power outages, more inflation, less housing affordability etc). Perhaps there will be more appetite for change after three more years of declining living standards (and we live in hope that anyone is willing to offer it then).
It is a nightmare that I want to wake up from. I have never seen so many lazy partisan journalists who are as bad as the politicians themselves. We are as a nation far too used to sucking on the state teat. I am so tired of Dutton promising money for this and that as we go down the gurgler. It’s insane as the pollies promise the world and deliver hell. I will not vote a major party.
Again John an accurate description of the way the Coalition find it easier to just drift LEFT. Unless they stand tall for their past proven and successful values they will be responsible for our great countries demise.
Oxymoronic to boldly and correctly lay out a nuclear path as part of Our only way forward, but then to add "And we'll add more renewables. So sad. On defense of Australia: Major General Jim Molan-Gina Rinehart-Peter Jennings-Greg Sheridan-David Shoebridge- and so many more(New Horizons) make the compelling case that we must take defense investment to at least three preferably four or five per cent Now!
Chris Mitchell has for many years been my favourite journalist. As for the Economist (where I nearly got a job in 1964), it was for many years an excellent publication, but went off the rails 25-30 years ago. As for "Welcome to Country," I think that when it begins the crowd should clap their hands and sing "You can't welcome me to my own country, You can't ..." etc.

I wondered about turning my back. At the moment I just swear and sigh!
Canada here we come...
There is a very interesting article that covers that election here: https://barsoom.substack.com/p/post-mortem-for-the-canadian-election
Looks like an exact rerun coming this weekend.
